Stolen Tools in $30K Find; but a Dozen Firearms Still to Be Found

A TEAM of Mackay detectives tracking down a dozen stolen firearms have instead found a storage shed full of power tools allegedly stolen over the last three months.

Mackay CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Tucker estimates the specialised tools, which include a Wacker Packer, waterskiing gear and a microscope, are collectively worth more than $30,000.

Police found the stash inside a storage shed during a search of a Slade Point property on Wednesday.

Det Snr Sgt Tucker said the search was part of an ongoing investigation into the theft of two gun safes from homes in Eton and Finch Hatton in the past two weeks.

Four firearms have since been recovered, but up to a dozen guns, including long arms and pistols, remain missing.

The crimes are allegedly connected.

"We've returned a number of these tools to local tradesmen that have been working on building sites here that have been broken into in a three-month period," he said

"Unfortunately we still have a large number of tools there. …
