Villa Starts Year in Style; Premiers Beat Blues in Opener

FOOTBALL: "I reckon they are a hell of a lot better than last year."

Sunbury captain Anthony Mollee has delivered a scary proposition to the rest of the Wide Bay Premier League: that the premiers are better than last year.

Brothers Aston Villa started its new season with a 3-1 victory over the Blues at Martens Oval on the back of a strong second half.

After a stalemate opening half, Villa broke the game open with two goals in three minutes from outside of the box to Nathan Carney and Jaryd Bennier.

The side sealed the game through an own goal from Sunbury before Mollee got a late goal back for the visitors.

"This is a team that always come out strong in the first 20," Villa captain Josh McInnes said of Sunbury.

"We knew that and we just wanted to compete in the first 20 and take control from there.

"I think we done that well in patches."

But McInnes said the side could have won by more. …
