A GLASS of Chianti calms, though now there is an additionally convincing case for wine-soaked evenings: The Ella Di Rocco spa is using wine's healing powers to treat the skin.

This is the UK's first wine spa, brought to London by mother and daughter Anna and Sonia Brilli. Here they are pioneering wine therapy, which launched last month. There are three stages: a wine scrub, wine bath and full body massage using grape-seed oil.

There's method to the measures. Red wine is packed with antioxidants, which can detoxify the skin and help fight ageing and pollution by restoring collagen and elastic fibREs. This plumps out wrinkles and gives the skin a boost. Plus, the polyphenol in grapes stimulates circulation, leaving skin hydrated and rejuvenated.

You drink it too, obviously. The therapist hands me a glass of Chianti before the total body scrub, which contains red vine leaves and a 50/50 blend of high quality Sangiovese and Merlot grapes from the Goretti vineyard in Italy. …
