Englishman out to Prove That He's No Regular Guy

JAMES Guy is looking forward to taking on close friend Chad le Clos at the Commonwealth Games as the Englishman eyes an historic medal haul.

Guy is set to compete in seven events at the Games in Australia's Gold Coast - the 200 metres and 400m freestyle, the 100m and 200m butterfly and three relays.

Securing a medal in each one would match the record held by South Africa's Le Clos (Glasgow 2014) and Australia's Ian Thorpe (Manchester 2002).

Guy said: "Swimming seven events is going to be challenging but this is why we swim 10 times a week and do three gym sessions.

"To win a medal in every event would be pretty fantastic because no Englishman has ever done it before.

"I don't think (it is out of the question). I'm in very, very good shape - the way things are going it's all on target to have a good meet."

Guy has never previously at an international meet competed in the 200m butterfly, the event in which Le Clos claimed Olympic gold at London 2012 and won last year's world title in Budapest. …
