Mother, Daughter in Florida Sentenced in Pickax Killing; by Cindy Swirko

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- A Hawthorne woman and her daughter were each sentenced to 40 years in prison Tuesday for the June 2011 pickax murder of the man who was their husband and father.

Stephanie Lynn Hudnall, 42, and Guenevere Lynn Hudnall, 20, were convicted of second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit second-degree murder for the killing of William Hudnall, 51. He was found dead at 22118 SE 71st Ave. in Hawthorne.

Stephanie Hudnall was portrayed in the sentencing as a manipulative mother who persuaded her daughter to kill him so they could get his Social Security benefits.

"She corrupted and twisted Guenevere with such manipulation that she believed it was OK to brutally murder her own father," said Brenda Hudnall, William Hudnall's sister-in-law, who also described Stephanie Hudnall as "a monster that has destroyed so many lives on so many levels."

The two women were living near Keystone Heights when the slaying occurred. Family members said Stephanie Hudnall had tried to kill her husband twice before and had refused to call for emergency help when he was having a stroke.

Officials said that on June 9, 2011, Stephanie and Guenevere went to William Hudnall's Hawthorne home. There, Guenevere Hudnall struck William with a pickax until he was dead. He was also decapitated, a relative said in court. …
