AFTER the Irish invasion at the Cheltenham Festival, it was a case of the French Revolution on All-Weather Championships Finals Day at Lingfield.

The meeting had not been a happy-hunting ground for French-based challengers, with Fresles the only horse to have won from across the Channel back in 2015.

But all that changed as the Gallic raiders plundered a 1,659-1 treble.

The Christophe Ferlandtrained Funny Kid (7-2) set the tone with a well-timed run to take the Betway All-Weather Marathon Championships by a nose.

Ferland said: "The pace suited him. He had a good lead and was able to kick on. He's got a good turn of foot. Last time at Wolverhampton he was a little bit fresh and not fit enough. The race quickened too early for him.

"Today, he was 200 per cent to really fight. He's a fantastic horse with a fantastic turn of foot; we hope there is more to come."

Whip-waving celebrations were the order of the day for rider Theo Bachelot, who celebrated his first two winners in England - starting with the impressive lengthand-a-half victory for City Light (8-1) in the Betway All-Weather Sprint Championships Conditions Stakes. Winning trainer Stephane Wattel said: "I'm very pleased with the ride Theo gave him. He rode a nice race and it is not an easy track to handle.

"He has been very impressive since the autumn and as a four-year-old we can still have some dreams with him, which is the good thing about racing."

There was further joy for Bachelot after he steered the Joel Boisnard-trained Lucky Team (40-1) to a length-anda-quarter victory in the Sunbets All-Weather Mile Championship Conditions Stakes in a course-record time.

Boisnard said: "I expected him to run well but he has gone and broke the course record. If he was as good on the turf as he was the allweather he'd be a superstar. …
