Couple Set for Epic Bike Journey to New Zealand

A KEEN cyclist is taking the trip of a lifetime to the other side of the world - all on the seat of a bike.

Jennie Burton, from Eston, will travel around 15,000 miles with her boyfriend Dan Burns, from Oxford.

The couple met at work in London and are swapping the rat race for an epic journey from the UK to Auckland, New Zealand, that will take up to two years.

Jennie said: "We always had a plan of living abroad eventually. We both cycle and fancied moving away and doing a couple of years abroad.

"Initially we were going to do a bit of back packing and we were getting into cycling at the same time.

"The two just joined together and the idea just got bigger and bigger. The distance just got longer and we thought 'shall we cycle the whole way'?" Jennie, who works in advertising in London, said the couple looked at driving across the world but the expenses were too much.

Instead of taking the more direct route of going through central Asia, Jennie and Dan, both 28, are ticking off countries on their bucket list as they go.

Their route will take them to Spain, across Europe, through Scandinavia, through Russia, Mongolia, South Korea, all around India.

They will get a plane to Australia and cycle across the south of the country and make their way from the south of New Zealand, finally ending in Auckland.

"It isn't about getting there the quickest or the most direct," she said.

"We thought about the countries we really wanted to visit. …
