A DOGGED performance from Newcastle Thunder saw them secure a second win of the season in Betfred League 1, away at Coventry Bears.

In atrocious conditions, Thunder put in a professional performance to bounce back from last weekend's two point loss to leaders Doncaster RLFC.

Thunder made a solid start with two Tee Ritson scores in the opening quarter of an hour. Running an arcing line for his first try, Ritson caused enough indecision to cut through the tackles of two Bears defenders to crash over for his first.

His second arrived seven minutes, Ritson sprinting home from halfway.

With both tries converted by Tom Shaw, Thunder raced into a healthy 12-0 lead and were looking good value for their lead.

The third try of the afternoon came via some tenacity from Lewis Young as the half-back forced an error on the floor, resulting in Coventry losing control of the ball.

Pouncing on the opportunity, Thunder's Young hacked forward into space before scooping up the ball himself for a straightforward score. …
