Ground-Breaking Event; Killarney Expansion Creates Jobs

GROUND has been broken to herald the start of a project that is set to be one of the biggest Killarney has ever seen.

About 60 guests attended a ceremony at Killarney Aged Memorial Care yesterday, ahead of $10m worth of work.

Federal Member for Maranoa David Littleproud turned the first sod.

Killarney Aged Care chairwoman Lyndall McCormack said the ceremony previewed what was to come.

"The site where we did the sod turning was looking out towards the ranges behind Killarney," she said. "It was just the most lovely morning with the sun coming down.

"The old building was sitting there behind us and we were looking out into the future of a completely re-imagined place."

The new $10million building will feature 30 beds, a modern kitchen, a new laundry and deliveries area and underground parking with lift access to the facility.

Mrs McCormack said local ownership and employment was a top priority for the not-for-profit facility. …
