Ensby Extends Winning Run on Heavy Lismore Track

Article excerpt

LISMORE Turf Club rode through the wet weather this week to stage a successful Tuesday TAB meeting and is now preparing for a string of Saturday meetings.

Racing on Tuesday started on a Heavy 8 surface and finished on an even heavier track on a drizzly day where Ballina trainer Ethan Ensby extended his winning run.

Ensby won with the wet track specialist Latino Lover while Gold Coast trainer Michael Costa grabbed a winning double with Personalised and Malkara.

Latino Lover has won three of his past four starts.

He rowed home to win on a Heavy 10 on the Gold Coast, won on a Soft 6 over 1900m then ran last on the Gold Coast on a Good 4 before running away with the 2100m race at Lismore on a Heavy 9.

Ensby was thinking about heading west with his four-year-old gelding Street Cry for the $50,000 Mornington Hcp (2100m) at Tamworth tomorrow but with the lack of rain out there and an almost certain dry track he decided to stay on the Northern Rivers.

He has accepted with him in the Benchmark 68 Hcp (2370m) at Grafton on Monday where he will have at most four opponents.

The track was rated a Soft 5 yesterday and any rain would be welcome for Ensby.

Off to Tamworth

GRAFTON trainer John Shelton is heading west with Belflyer for the $150,000 Tamworth Cup (1400m) tomorrow.

Ben Looker will ride the last start Grafton winner, which won the Harwood Hcp (1006m) with 64kg, less Lexi McPherson's 4kg claim.

The six-year-old gelding son of Bel Esprit has won six of his past nine starts for Shelton and Looker has been on board for five of them, at Grafton (Moree Cup), Ballina, Warwick and the Sunshine Coast.

They have drawn barrier two and will be rushing home late in a winnable race that also includes Mighty Like, Suncraze and last year's cup runner-up Mapmaker.

Mighty Like is trained by 21-year-old farrier Zach Hatch and will carry 60kg. …
