Rustlers Women's Stellar Win Rockhampton Rustlers Win Big in Battalion Finals

RUGBY LEAGUE: Rockhampton Rustlers' women's coach Amanda Ohl "couldn't be happier" after the full-time siren blared and her team was named reigning champions of the weekend's 47th Battalion.

The women's side pulled off an impressive 22-6 win over the Sunshine Coast Falcons on Sunday afternoon.

"We did amazing," Ohl said.

"We couldn't be happier or prouder.

"Kaitlin Moss was inspirational, not only with her efforts on the field but her motivation and her positivity.

"We spoke about the game before we kicked off. We knew if we were close with them at half time we would come over the top in the second half of the game."

The Rustlers controlled the game through their "defence and their skilful halves who directed traffic" for the team.

"Quick ball movement was a tactic," Ohl said.

"We trained and knew our ball movement and our backs were our strengths this year and we put a plan together to attack exactly in those areas.

"The game plan was perfect and it worked.

"My philosophy of football is simple. You go forward and we've got the skill to get us over the try line. The girls had a job to do and they did it really well."

Against the Falcons' structured and experienced team, the Rustlers managed to maintain control of the ball well and keep momentum up throughout the match.

Although the Falcons made their tackles individually, the Rustlers jelled together as a team and defended as a unit.

"We spoke before the game about enthusiasm and positivity which is a big word for us this weekend," Ohl said.

"We enjoyed ourselves and had fun.

"Jess (Powell) was a player put in a position she wasn't used to and she handled it really well.

"We had a few girls in their first year, like Jess, and some girls still 17 years old, so it's hard to describe my team as experienced.
