Cats' Starlet Molyneux Reflects on Fan-Tastic Debut; Fan-Tastic Debut for Young Gun Molyneux

LUKE Molyneux has thanked the 'amazing' Sunderland fans for making his debut a day to remember. The 20-year-old was drafted into the starting XI at the last moment due to an injury to Kazenga LuaLua, and he helped the Black Cats to a resounding 3-0 win over champions Wolves at the Stadium of Light.

It has been a miserable season for Sunderland fans as the club suffered a second successive relegation, but against Wolves they finally saw their team deliver a performance to be proud of - with Bishop Aucklandborn Molyneux one of three homegrown debutants amongst the six academy graduates to be involved on the day.

"It was a dream come true for me really," said the young striker.

"Ever since I was a kid, I've been brought up to be a Sunderland supporter, so to get the chance to play for the club at the Stadium of Light was incredible.

"My grandad's a season-ticket holder - he has been for years - and it makes him proud to see me out there.

"All my family came and sat together behind the goal, but my grandad said he didn't want to move because he wanted to stay where his season ticket is. I noticed him at the side of the pitch.

"It's crazy really. When the fans are like that, it's amazing.

"Living up here with loads of fans who are family and friends, I obviously know what everyone has been going through.

"It just shows we are a really good team and we can play. "Throughout the season we've not shown that enough, and there have been ups and downs, but we can battle and play well. "We're the only team which hasn't been beaten by Wolves, and the fans deserved that day because they've been amazing all season. "Wolves are the league champions, so that just shows t we are a good team and we can compete with the best. …
