Drug Driver 'Injected Ice'; Hampden Woman Criticised by Irate Magistrate

WHEN police questioned a Hampden driver as to whether she was behind the wheel with marijuana in her system, they got more than they bargained for. Renea Paula Lynette Micallef, 28, admitted she had injected ice.

Two months later, Micallef was busted with about 1g of ice.

On Wednesday, Micallef sparked the ire of a magistrate when she claimed she had been trying to cope with the death of a family member.

Magistrate Damien Dwyer was quick to point out Micallef had been before the courts last year for drug-related matters. Micallef pleaded guilty in Mackay Magistrates Court on Wednesday to driving with ice in her system at Ooralea on February 18 and possessing ice at Sarina on April 12.

Prosecutor Codie Rowe said Micallef had been "questioned about the recent consumption or use of cannabis" on February 18. " ... the defendant said she had injected two points of ice to level her out," Mr Rowe said. …
