FANCY getting up close and personal with robots, automatons, or a humanoid baby complete with nappy? Or would you like to meet a Robo-thespian who quotes lines from famous movies, or even choreograph your own robot dance routine? Well then you could be in for a treat when a new exhibition unveils itself during the next school holidays.

Robots - then and now, has been developed by the Science Museum in London and will open at the Life Science Centre in Newcastle, on May 26.

It will tell the 500-year, work-inprogress story of building automated machines from the humble beginnings of 16th century mechanical automatons to the latest humanoids - and everything in between.

Split across five zones that look at developments in robotics from 1570 to the current day, Robots - then and now, encourages visitors to question human emotional responses to inanimate machines.

You can record a message in a special video booth, design your own robot and meet some interactive automatons at the exhibition as well as lots of other robotthemed fun that includes Space Robots, a 4D Motion Ride adventure and the chance to build a robot from recycled materials in the Making Space.

Come face to face with fistbumping Pepper the Robot, or follow the special family trail and design your own robot or choreograph your own robot dance moves. …
