New Members Brave Chill to Dip into Race Action

SWIMMING: Cool winter nights usually mean attendances drop off at the GDSC Swimming Club meets but this has not been the trend over the past few weeks.

This week three new members, Michelle Rolph, Sonja Beukers and Deb Breckenridge arrived for competition and were warmly welcomed by president Steve.

With 15 heats to swim racing got under way promptly. It wasn't long before those successful in the heats were lining up for the finals. First final was the 25m freestyle and on the blocks were Trevor (making a habit of this) Want, Bruce Durrington, Damien O'Mahony, Jill Enks and Wilson Burns. The competitive nature of O'Mahony and Durrington caused them grief in this event with Durrington breaking by .10 and O'Mahony breaking by a very measly .04. With disqualifications declared the judge turned to the next competitor home and recording a very good time, Enks was awarded the win. …
