Again the pride of Brisbane town; this week anyway.

You got your first win of 2018.

And it was not just a win - it was a thumping.

Fifty-six points to be precise, against a side many expect to be in the thick of the action come finals time.

The Lions entered round nine as the only team without a win this season, and few gave them any hope against Hawthorn.

For the Brisbane fans who turned up to the Gabba on Sunday afternoon, likely with hope more than any sense of optimism, there was an outpouring of emotion.

No more honourable losses. This match yielded four competition points.

Long past are the glory days of 2001-03, when the three-peat Lions were the talk of the AFL world.
