New Servo Faces Opposition; Councillor Calls on State Government to Stop Development across from School

STATE Government intervention could be the only roadblock to a service station proposal which has evoked strong opposition in a hinterland community.

Sunshine Coast Councillor Jenny McKay said she had written to Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey imploring him to intervene in an approval process for the Maleny venture.

The council received a resubmitted application earlier this month for a new service station and fast food outlets to be built across the road from Maleny State School.

A separate bid launched in 2012 for a service station at the same site needed to go through a public consultation process as it conflicted with the town plan of the time.

It was subsequently withdrawn by the developer.

But changes to the town plan since then have made the new application code assessable, removing the requirement for community consultation.

Cr McKay said she opposed the Bunya St location due to traffic constraints, particularly safe student pick-up and drop-off conditions. …
