THE 50th amniverary of the Ayresome Park Schools Trophy ended as it did on the very first occasion with Middlesbrough lifting the cup.

In good conditions both teams started brightly with half chances at each end before Stockton took a deserved lead through Gareth Basham's 18-yard strike.

An equaliser for Middlesbrough followed after some sustained Boro attacks when Alfie Snow of Macmillan Academy pounced on a rebound. 1-1 The turnaround was quickly completed when Jack O'Rourke gave Middlesbrough a 2-1 lead in the 31st minute. Stockton pushed for an equaliser before the break but keeper Harley Williams was equal to the task.

Into the second half and a fantastic solo goal from Keaton Sturdy of Outwood Ormesby gave Middlesbrough a 3-1. Both teams were playing a fast passing game, which was entertaining to the crowd of 250+.

As Stockton piled forward in search of an equaliser Jake Picken made it 4-1 to Boro when his original effort was saved but he managed to scramble the rebound past keeper Bateman. …
