Man Rescued on River; HUGE AND COMPLEX SEARCH LAUNCHED BY THE RNLI AND EMERGENCY SERVICES

A HUGE search and rescue operation was launched to find a man drifting in and out of consciousness on the River Tees.

Redcar's RNLI lifeboats, Cleveland Police, the UK Coastguard rescue teams and crews from the North East Ambulance Service were involved, in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Police started the search after becoming concerned for the wellbeing of a man, with emergency services concentrating on the South Gare, near Redcar.

The UK Coastguard was contacted for assistance and the two RNLI lifeboats from Redcar were launched just after 2.15am to begin a search along both sides of the South Gare breakwater.

The man was found by police officers on an area known as Bran Sands, extremely cold, and drifting in and out of consciousness.

He was given immediate medical aid by paramedics and coastguard teams and because of the difficult terrain, it was decided to evacuate the man by stretcher aboard the Redcar lifeboat. …
