THE grounds of the MECC will be transformed this July as Mackay becomes the temporary home for the Wonderland Spiegeltent and its performances, Rouge and Circus Wonderland.

The Daily Mercury spoke with star performer Isabel Hertaeg from the adult acrobatic cabaret performance Rouge about their exciting new season.

"Rouge is a circus cabaret with a sort of adult sexy feel to it and we have a collection of super talented performers," Hertaeg said.

The show is all about celebrating uniqueness and beauty.

"It's all about things that are beautiful and things that are spectacular and things that are sexy and things that are fabulous," Hertaeg said.

Mackay audiences can expect to be impressed with the show, with Hertaeg saying this performance will be a special one for the Rouge team.

"We will be giving our 60th performance in Mackay for our opening night," she said.

Though the show has been performed before, Hertaeg said that the audience will still see something different.

"We have a new performer that has come on board for this season which is exciting and we have some new acts which are going into the show, which are her acts and I have got a new sexy piece of music that I am doing a saucy tango dance with," she said.

Working on a show like Rouge takes a lot of practise and each of the performers train and practice their acts alone before coming together to rehearse.

"We had a big development before our first show of the season and we have had a meet back before every season to remember how everything goes and have some rehearsals," Hertaeg said.

"We are building some new things for this season which is exciting and I am looking forward it."

The show will be performed in the iconic Spiegeltent that will be set up on the lawn of the MECC. Melissa Head, the director of Wonderland Entertainment and Leisure said they are thrilled to be in Mackay.

"We have travelled with the iconic Wonderland Spiegeltent around Australia for many years and are thrilled to be in Mackay as a part of the wonderful Festival of Arts programming," she said. …
