Go Panthers; Netball Trio Playing Well in Tuesday Night Games

NETBALL: Three Southern Downs players are in Darling Downs Panthers teams for this season's Queensland State Netball League.

Assumption College student Caitlin Skaines went to U19 trials but has been selected in the open side and either starts or comes off the bench at goal defence.

Clifton student Lucy Mantova, who attends school at Fairholme College, and St Joseph's Stanthorpe student Shania Newman are playing for the Darling Downs Panthers U19 team.

Skaines first played netball with the Warwick association in year 6 and is the youngest player in the Panthers open side.

"I played my best game this week for the Panthers against Wildcats at the Logan Metro Netball Centre," she said.

"I was surprised to make the open team. In recent years, I have played defence after first being a shooter."

Mantova and Newman are part of the Darling Downs U19 side which went down 49-47 to the Wildcats this week.

"I remember watching the Panthers play a trial match in Warwick several years ago when I was a Warwick junior," Mantova said. …
