Caravan of Love Helps Family to Enjoy Tour Together; Ex-Hexham Schoolgirl Emma Reid Is Performing on Her Home Turf, Reports MIKE KELLY

RETURNING to the North East for a homecoming gig is a bit of a family affair for Emma Reid.

She and her husband Daniel, who live in Sweden, have embarked on tour in a caravan with their two young children, Lilly, aged six, and four-year-old Marlon.

"We did it last year on tour and it worked really well," said Emma, 36. "As this is the last year before Lilly has to goes to school we thought we'd do it again and treat it like a family adventure."

The caravan won't be needed for two gigs in Northumberland - the Burnlaw Centre in Hexham on Monday and the Coquetdale Music Trust in Thropton near Morpeth the following night - as she has family in the area.

Born in West Sussex to father Malcolm and mum Magdalena from Sweden, they moved to Riding Mill when Emma was aged seven, and she later attended Queen Elizabeth High School in Hexham.

"I loved the countryside, the nature and the windswept hills," said Emma. "I always love coming back to Northumberland. Although I live in Sweden now, it also feels like home." Her mother was a violin teacher who inspired in Emma a love of the instrument and music including Swedish folk.

She further developed her skills through Folkworks, now based at the Sage Gateshead, which runs workshops, summer schools and festivals to promote and encourage the furtherance of folk music. And she was also for a while a member of the North East-based ceilidh band Hedgehog's Skin which is still gigging. …
