Beef Industry Tops Charts; CQ's Cattle Market at Record High

ROCKHAMPTON man Tony Donnelly has worked for Nolan Meats for nearly 30 years and in the past few years has seen the demand for cattle at a record high.

With continuously dry periods affecting many Central Queensland towns, Mr Donnelly said many properties have very little green and little incentive to keep cattle on their land.

This in turn has resulted in an increase of cattle on the market and thankfully, people are buying.

"This high we've seen in the last two years has been phenomenal," Mr Donnelly said.

"It's our highest on record.

"I suppose a bit of dry weather and the Australian cattle herd decreasing and numbers being lower has created more demand.

"The market has got to stay where it is for Australia to be well competitive with other countries.

"If it goes back to the highs of what it was, we won't be able to move the meat."

Nolan Meats is a Gympie-based company which Mr Donnelly began working for when he lived there. …
