NEWCASTLE United fans would warmly welcome the return of Brazilian winger Kenedy this summer. Rafa Benitez is also a huge fan of the South American star who helped spearhead the club's bid for Premier League survival last summer.

The 22-year-old not only bolsters Newcastle's attack down the lefthand side but also offers good cover and flexibility defensively as he can play at left-back or left-wing back, meaning Benitez can operate with a five-man defence in certain games.

Kenedy's wage demands are not really a problem for Newcastle but Chelsea's asking price of up to PS30million for his services make this a difficult deal.

Benitez has known this for a while and even mentioned another loan at the end of last season.

However, for Kenedy, who returns to Chelsea on July 9 for pre-season, it is almost decision time in terms of his future.

The player's agent filled Kenedy's head with talk of signing for Bayern Munich, Paris St-Germain, Liverpool or Arsenal earlier in this summer, but none of that has materialised so far. Even at Chelsea, his future is massively uncertain and he will be lucky to earn a start in the Premier League under either Antonio Conte or his mooted replacement Maurizio Sarri.

The truth is some players don't have a chance to develop at Stamford Bridge because the expectations are so high and the demands of silverware are fierce.

The mere fact Conte could be out of a job - despite winning the Premier League and FA Cup in the last two years - shows it is not the right environment for a player like Kenedy.

He will never have the same run of games like he will at Newcastle, something lost on his agent. …
