Root Strikes for Roses Match Win

Article excerpt

JOE Root took three of four wickets to fall as Yorkshire secured a crucial Roses win over Lancashire by 118 runs during the third morning at Emirates Old Trafford to improve their position towards the bottom of Division One.

Steve Patterson's side were defending a target of 323 and started day three on the verge of a 19-point haul.

Yorkshire started this match second-bottom in the table, three points behind Lancashire with a game in hand.

They are now 14 points clear of their Red Rose neighbours with that game in hand still intact.

They have also jumped over Hampshire, who have not played this round and are in the relegation zone as a result. …
