Hollywood Star Shoots New Film in North East

HOLLYWOOD actress Caroline Goodall has announced that she is shooting her new film around Newcastle, bringing a huge boost to the region's big-screen ambitions.

And her plans are all-action, with filming already started on The Bay of Silence.

It's a thriller which features Bond girl Olga Kurylenko and Bourne Identity actor Brian Cox. It even has a release date set for 2019.

The British star of such blockbusters as Hook, Schindler's List and The Princess Diaries, has decided to use North East locations as the backdrop for the upcoming thriller after being impressed by what she saw during the inaugural Newcastle International Film & TV Festival.

She signed up as a board member to support the festival's international ambitions and, was in the region in April for its debut during which it promoted the area's range of coastline, cityscapes and countryside as an ideal locations.

And she was just as convinced by its merits as the visiting film-makers from around the world.

It's an early mark of concrete success for the festival which led to the formation of a new production company 54 Films Ltd which has already announced a new action film to star local actor Craig Conway, one of the driving forces behind both the festival organiser and the fledgling company.

Now, having been inspired by the festival, award-winning actress Goodall is helping to build the North East's filmmaking reputation by choosing its locations for her independent British feature.

The Bay of Silence, which will mark her debut as a producer, started filming here this summer, and other locations will include Italy as the film's main character crosses continents in the story in a search for a missing family.

She said: "As a board member of the Newcastle International Film and TV Festival, I travelled back and forth for nine months and got to know this wonderful region. …
