Lascelles: We Can Handle the Big Boys; Lascelles Is Determined to Focus on the Positive

JAMAAL Lascelles believes Newcastle United have the strength in depth to cope with the challenging run of fixtures they face over the coming weeks. The Magpies play three of last season's top six in their next three Premier League matches, while Rafa Benitez's side must also travel to Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup second round next Wednesday night. With Javier Manquillo and DeAndre Yedlin having both suffered knocks during the first few games of the season, Newcastle are already short of options at full-back - and Benitez will hope at least one of that duo is available for Sunday's game with Chelsea at St James' Park. The United manager already knows he will be without both Kenedy - who, although he avoided a retrospective ban for kicking out at Cardiff City's Victor Camarasa during Saturday's 0-0 draw, is ineligible to play against his parent club - and Isaac Hayden, who serves the first game of his threematch suspension for his red card. However, Magpies' captain Lascelles is confident Newcastle have enough depth within their squad to take points from their tough run of fixtures. "I wouldn't say this is a difficult period at all," Lascelles said ahead of three straight league games against Chelsea, defending champions Manchester City and Arsenal. "We have a couple of players who have suffered little knocks and, at the weekend, we had to deal with a red card, but as a team I think we got through that OK. "We'll get through these next few games. We have a big squad and good players in every area. need to panic. We'll just stay calm and train hard and whatever team the gaffer decides to go for, it will be a good one. We'll go again." The Magpies have yet to claim a victory this season, having lost their opening match to Tottenham Hotspur, before playing out a stalemate in the Welsh capital at the weekend. …
