Nike Lunna Tero Aarnio REDCAR'S match-winning recent recruit Nike Lunna says that beating local rivals Newcastle at the Media Prima Arena tonight, 7.30pm, is more important than a battle for personal bragging rights.

Lunna, whose 9+2 points and last heat heroics were vital in last week's victory over Workington, faces the only other Finnish rider currently racing in Britain in the form of the Diamonds' Tero Aarnio.

And although the 22-year-old admits the two Finns are good friends, he stresses that the Ecco Finishing Bears search for a third successive win is all that really matters in their bid to avoid finishing the season bottom of the Championship.

"Speedway is not so big in Finland so everyone knows every other rider pretty well," says former Scunthorpe, Glasgow and Peterborough favourite Lunna.

"I am good mates with Tero and can't wait to race against him.

"This season we have been pretty much on the same level, showing similar speed and so I expect to have some tight races against him.

No Bears see anything against "But, of course, the most important thing is seeing the team win and I'll be trying to beat Tero and every other Jade Newcastle rider in order that we can do that."

The Diamonds have hit a good run of form themselves, winning all their last three matches.

The Tynesiders have beaten the league's top two clubs Peterborough and Lakeside at Brough Park, as well as a 55-35 win away at outgoing champions Sheffield, but will be without Ludvig Lindgren, who became the first Newcastle rider this year to score a 15-point maximum last Sunday.

The Swede, brother of World Championship front-runner Freddie Lindgren, is committed to racing in his homeland, leaving the Diamonds to use Rider Replacement, whereby all of his teammates can deputise, taking a ride each. …
