JASON Puncheon is on Middlesbrough's radar as Tony Pulis eyes up a reunion with the playmaker who he previously managed at Crystal Palace.

Puncheon is surplus to requirements at Selhurst Park this season and despite playing for the Eagles in their Carabao Cup win at Swansea on Tuesday night, Roy Hodgson has opened the door for the 32-year-old to leave on loan.

Hodgson said: "He wants to play more and I have made it clear to him that I cannot guarantee that.

"In the middle of the park is where we are, at the moment, very competitive. But you saw that he is still a very good player, and I thought he was important to us in our victory."

Pulis has identified Puncheon as a player who can add that bit more craft in attacking midfield as well as offering versatility, with the former Southampton man at home on both flanks.

Pulis and Puncheon know each other well, with the Boro boss getting the best out of the attacking midfielder after taking charge of Palace in the 2013/14 season.

"Punch could be anything he wanted to be, he has got the tools to be a top player," Pulis said of Puncheon that year.

Puncheon has made more than 130 league appearances for Palace but has slipped down the pecking order under Hodgson and is keen on a loan switch so he can play regular football.

The Palace man is one of the players on Pulis's shortlist as the Boro boss targets a productive end to the loan window, which closes tomorrow at 5pm.

Pulis is open to allowing certain fringe players to leave on loan but is reluctant to sanction any departures before he first strengthens his squad with additions.
