Button Eyes Fourth Straight Title with Quality Horses

THE new racing season is only a month old but Rockhampton trainer Tom Button already looks to have a mortgage on his fourth straight local premiership title.

Button celebrated a running treble when The Tax Accountant, Ekklestone and Little Hunter got the job done, all under in-form jockey Justin Stanley, at Callaghan Park on Thursday with the promise of many more wins to come.

Normally it would be difficult to overshadow the performance of eight-year-old Ekklestone who has now strung together four straight wins this preparation.

But at the other end of the spectrum in terms of their racing careers, The Tax Accountant having his first run back as a three-year-old, blew away his opposition over 1100m to break his maiden status.

A $48,000 purchase from the 2017 Capricornia Yearling Sale in Rockhampton, The Tax Accountant has now taken big steps to recouping his price tag and more importantly he looks to have developed and come on since his two-year-old year.

Button now has seven Rockhampton winners for the season, well clear of his nearest rival Ricky Vale (three), and with 35 horses in work not only does Button have weight of numbers in his favour when it comes to winning another premiership but he also has quality in the ranks to complement that.

"I've got a lot of young stock, two and three-year-olds in work, and then there are the horses spelling at the farm as well," Button said.

"Life is pretty full on at the moment that's for sure."

Button had runners at Mackay yesterday and today he saddles up two horses at the metropolitan meeting at the Sunshine Coast.

His promising young charge Gypsy Toff tackles the rich $122,500 QTIS 3YO Handicap (1000m) in which the filly has drawn awkwardly in barrier 10.

Stablemate Deconstructed is set to line up in the $70,000 Benchmark 80 Handicap (1400m) and has drawn more favourably in gate six. …
