DuPont Can Do in Boys Hoops

When Henry Lewitt took over the duPont Middle School boys basketball team this year, he didn't know what to expect. But after the team won the Southside Middle School Conference basketball title, Lewitt said the season was one of the best times of his life.

"I've coached soccer and baseball, but this was the most fun I've had coaching anything," Lewitt said. "I just loved it."

With an overall record of 9-2, the duPont seventh-grade team claimed the title. The team faced Bolles, Mandarin Middle, Landon, Southside and Twin Lakes twice each.

The Dragons' leader was 6-foot-1 Michael Dubose, who averaged 20 points per game. Lewitt said the 13-year-old's best game came in a 33-32 loss to Mandarin Middle, when Dubose had 25 points.

"Just to have a player like that in my first year was incredible," Lewitt said. "He goes to the hoop better than any player at this level. He's going to play high school ball for somebody and start right away."

The Dragons had to deal with several injuries along the way. …
