Following are crimes and other incidents reported recently on the Southside to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Aggravated battery /domestic violence:

A Southside woman was jailed on aggravated battery/domestic violence charges after she stabbed her husband, 21, during an argument in their home in the 7500 block of Powers Avenue at 8:07 a.m. Sunday.

The woman, 21, told police she and her husband argued as she was leaving for work. Her husband began to choke her, so she got a butter knife, which her husband took from her. As her husband was banging her head against a wall, the woman managed to get hold of a steak knife. She told police she was trying to push her husband away from her when he was stabbed. The woman's mother, who also lives in the apartment with the couple, told police her son-in-law is always beating her daughter. The man was taken to University Medical Center, where he was listed in fair condition Monday.

Police say they will seek an arrest warrant for a man, 27, who attacked a friend, 40, with a knife in a dispute over payment for a set of tire rims. The incident took place outside the victim's home in the 4400 block of Philips Highway at 11:38 a.m. Sunday. The victim received a severe laceration on his left wrist as he fought off his attacker. He was treated by personnel from a rescue unit.

Police are looking for a man, 40, who bit off a quarter of his mother's right thumb. The incident happened at 1:50 p.m. at the woman's home in the 5000 block of Philips Highway. The woman, 63, told police that her son, considered a transient who uses crack cocaine and sleeps in wooded areas, came to her home and broke a window. They argued about the broken window when the son got very angry and began to yell and curse.

The woman tried to leave by getting into her car, but her son slammed the car door shut on her legs before she was all the way in the car. …
