Untenable; Toon Legend Ferdinand Hits out at Ashley over Current Impasse at Club

LES Ferdinand believes the current situation at Newcastle United and the owner Mike Ashley has become "untenable."

Geordie fans participated in their biggest protest for three years before the 2-1 defeat against Arsenal and Ferdinand is saddened to see the club he once led the line for during their halcyon years stoop to such a low ebb.

United are still very much for sale but Ashley is yet to accept any offers for the club so far, despite interest from Amanda Staveley and PCP Capital Partners last year.

Legendary ex-No 9 Ferdinand said: "There has been a situation for a long time at the club.

"It has reached the situation where it is untenable.

"Ashley wants to sell the club and while he wants to sell he does not want to pump any more money into it.

"When you say there is nobody out there, maybe there is nobody out there who wants to pay the money he wants to sell it for.

"I guarantee you there are people who want to buy the club but don't value it at the same price as Mike Ashley.

"From a supporter's point of view it is extremely frustrating."

Ferdinand is also fearful of Rafa Benitez's position at the club.

He went on: "You want to be competitive and you have one of the best managers in this league who is able to get the best out of the players he has.

"You need to give him the tools he needs to be successful.

I guarantee there are who want the club value it at price as Les "If he is not given those tools he is going to become frustrated - if he is not frustrated already - and he is going to be a viable option for other people, especially being in his last year.

"I understand the frustrations of everybody surrounding the club because you don't want to lose Rafa Benitez.

"He is somebody you want to build a club with.

"Each day you wake up hoping a new owner for the club is possible.
