Former Nease Pitcher Sainted When He Signs Flagler Scholarship

The baseball career of former Nease High School pitcher Matt Howard keeps progressing. The former Panther recently signed a baseball scholarship with Flagler College in St. Augustine. Prior to signing with the Saints, Howard pitched for Santa Fe Community College. He was a late-round selection by the Los Angeles Dodgers out of high school in the 1997 amateur draft.

"Matt will be a quality pitcher for us," said Flagler coach Dave Barnett. "He has above-average velocity and possesses an outstanding curveball. We are delighted to have him."

Howard will not be the only Jacksonville-area player taking the field for the Saints next year. University Christian pitcher Brent Cochran signed with Flagler on May 20. Flagler is a member of the NAIA and competes in the Florida Sun Conference.
