`FREEDOM TRAIN' ON BILL

The Golden Isles African Theatre will present, Freedom Train, based on the story of Harriett Tubman's life, in performances at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. June 18 at the historic Ritz Theatre in downtown Brunswick.

ANTIQUE APPRAISAL

If you're interested in getting an informal appraisal of a family heirloom or a collectible, consider going to the Antique Appraisal Fair from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. June 18-19 at the Thomas County Museum of History, 725 N. Dawson St., Thomasville.

The appraisers' fields of expertise include silver, china, jewelry and 18th and 19th century American furniture, folk art and sports memorabilia. Cost is $10 for one item; $5 for each additional. STRICTER HOG FARM CURBS

The Georgia Board of Natural Resources voted yesterday to impose tougher restrictions on hog farming, particularly corporate mega-farms.

By a 9-1 margin, board members approved changes to the state's water quality regulations requiring farms with more than 3,000 hogs to cover waste lagoons and inject treated waste below the surface instead of spraying it onto fields as fertilizer. Operators of new factory farms also will have to be bonded to cover the cost of waste cleanup if lagoons spill or are abandoned. …
