I LOVE dogs and I've had a few over the years.

Max my miniature fox terrier was such a ratbag.

I'd find him curled up in the spare room on top of a white pillowcase after he had been running around in the mud and rain.

My friend Lorna and her family loved to dog-sit him.

We'd take his huge beanbag that he would drag around until he found the right spot to sleep.

They would be in fits of laughter watching all this.

Jake the black lab was my husband's hunting dog, great on pigs, duck and deer in NZ.

He always knew when my husband was going hunting.

He'd be the first in the back of the ute, even if was raining.

Jake was my companion.

We'd go walking and running most days.

Zima Zam our rottweiler broke our heart.

He was a dog you were glad was yours - huge and powerful. …
