FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. -- Gov. Jesse Ventura launched an attack on the Saint Paul Pioneer Press yesterday on his radio show, saying he would cancel subscriptions to the newspaper and not honor interview requests.

Ventura, who repeatedly has singled out the paper for criticism, said on the show Lunch with the Governor that he was upset by recent criticism of his return to the pro wrestling ring as a referee.

Editor Walker Lundy wouldn't comment until he has reviewed a tape of the show, an assistant said.

Ventura criticized the paper for its coverage of his guest referee appearance at a World Wrestling Federation event on Sunday.

It was a pay-per-view television show that featured wrestling by scantily clad women, vulgar language and simulated violence.

Ventura said the Pioneer Press is hypocritical because it runs advertisements for X-rated movies and strip clubs in its sports section.

"I don't know if I have to do it by executive order or if I simply can state it because I am the governor, but I'm going to cancel all subscriptions at the Capitol because I don't want people thinking that we at the Capitol in some way support a newspaper that supports pornography," he said, clarifying that he was referring to his office. …
