Jacksonville native David Duval's 5 and 4 victory over Jesper Parnevik was the most lopsided singles decision for a Ryder Cup rookie since U.S. captain Ben Crenshaw defeated Des Smyth 6 and 4 in 1981.

Ben Crenshaw and Mark James have both resigned as captains of the respective Ryder Cup teams. The early favorites to lead the U.S. to the Belfry in England for 2001 are Curtis Strange and Payne Stewart.

In the past, Europeans have not hesitated to fall back on former captains. Who better for what promises to be a bigger grudge match than the 1991 War by the Shore in Kiawah Island than Seve Ballesteros?

Not to nitpick, but despite his 45-foot putt to win the Ryder Cup for America, Justin Leonard still hasn't won a match. He's 0-3-5 in two appearances.

As dominant as some European players are in doubles, they apparently need the security blanket of a teammate.

Jose Maria Olazabal is 16-8-3 in doubles, but now 1-5 in singles. Parnevik was 3-0-1 in doubles at The Country Club, but is now 0-2 in singles, and neither of those matches went past the 14th hole. Even Ballesteros had a losing record in singles, 2-4-2. Colin Montgomerie (3-0-2) is the only veteran Ryder Cup player on this year's European team with a winning record in singles.

A European press that called U.S. players "spoiled, pampered and greedy," referred to wives and girlfriends of U.S. players as "Barbies" and "clones" and poked fun at the physical appearance of Jim Furyk is now indignant because Colin Montgomerie was heckled by fans.

The World Golf Village IMAX production crew, filming highlights of the Ryder Cup for an upcoming movie: The Spirit of Golf, were in place for Leonard's monster putts at the 15th and 17th holes.
