FROM singing street sweepers to England super-fans, these Teessiders gave us plenty to smile about in 2018.

Amidst all the heavy news, political unrest and ups and downs of the Boro, the past year has been peppered with people from around our region who have brightened our days with all manner of activities. We've picked out 11 - but there are plenty out there who did their bit.

England super-fan Robert Harvey The long hot summer and a top World Cup run had us all in good spirits - and cheering along with England super-fan Robert Harvey, 55, from Easterside. He upgraded his "man cave" for the World Cup with more than 100 flags plastered across his home and his very own hot tub, which he sat in to watch the games.

Steve Simpson, the singing street sweeper Steve, Guisborough's 2018 Citizen of the Year, earned himself the moniker of the town's very own 'singing street sweeper',' providing a regular friendly face on his rounds. He regularly wins positive comments from people for going above and beyond his job and even switched the town's Christmas tree lights on this year.

Helen Scullion, nurse South Tees Hospitals Trust nurse Helen Scullion was named the country's top nurse by the Nursing Times.

A urology advanced nurse practitioner in radiology, she was nominated for her excellent rapport with patients and her inspirational service development work.

Lisa Tomlinson, tireless James Collier For coming up with a groom's speech like no other, Redcar groom James Collier had his guests - and the rest of Teesside - smiling with his epic movie-themed journey across East Cleveland.

He came up with an 18-minute film with iconic scenes re-created against the backdrop of familiar Teesside sights in a bid to make an unforgettable mark on his wedding to bride Susan shown at their reception at The Arches Country House in Brotton. …
