NEWCASTLE High School for Girls (NHSG) prides itself in encouraging girls to explore their interests and passions, wherever they may lie, which is why we place great importance on delivering a curriculum with real breadth, including creative art subjects.

Embedding the creative arts within the curriculum not only provides an enriching experience for the girls at NHSG, it also allows them the space to be themselves as well as develop critical transferable skills. With no right or wrong answers in the creative arts, the girls are required to form and express their own opinions.

Their curiosity in the world is expanded as they are encouraged to let their imagination and creativity come to the fore, and their confidence grows with each step outside of their comfort zone. Understanding and empathy for others are also developed as girls are asked to put themselves in the shoes of others to prepare for a play or choreograph a dance. Other skills such as resilience, determination and teamwork are all vital in the creative arts arena.

What's particularly special at NHSG is that all the pupils have a chance to get involved from the earliest of ages, through our creative arts curriculum and our extensive co-curriculum programme.

As we look ahead to the new school term at NHSG we know that the dark days of January and February will be illuminated by the girls' involvement in art, dance, drama and music. Already, there is one word on everyone's lips, Oliver! The excitement is palpable as final rehearsals are underway for the spectacular NHSG Musical which will be performed at Northern Stage from January 24th-26th. With a cast of over 100 girls, our musical brings together the skills and talents of our music, dance and drama pupils to deliver a truly outstanding production.
