Murder Trial Jury Told of Efforts to Save Mum

A WITNESS to the fatal stabbing of mum-of-three Kelly Franklin has told a murder trial jury how he tried to save her life.

Anthony Williams, who described himself as a qualified lifesaver, said he ran over to the stricken woman on Oxford Road, Hartlepool.

He said: "All I wanted to do was to try and save the victim.

"I felt for a pulse, couldn't feel a pulse, put hands on the chest to do CPR.

I was just couldn't save the worst couldn't "But she was gone. There was nothing I could do to save her.

Witness Anthony "I basically just collapsed on the floor in floods of tears.

"I was just in shock. I couldn't save her. That's the worst part. I couldn't save her," he told Teesside Crown Court yesterday.

He was giving evidence in the murder trial of Torbjorn Kettlewell, 30, also known as Ian, and Julie Wass, 48.

Kettlewell is accused of murdering his ex-partner Kelly Franklin, 29, by stabbing her more than 30 times on the evening of August 3. Wass, described as his friend and lover, is accused of helping the brutal killing by finding the victim, calling Kettlewell to the scene then driving him away to a "hiding place".

Mr Williams said he passed a woman and a "quite agitated and angry" man as he walked to a bus stop on Oxford Road.

As he got to the stop, he said: "I heard an alarm going off, like a rape alarm, really loud and piercing."

He said he swung around, the alarm stopped and he saw a commotion involving the man and a woman he had passed.

Williams "They were arguing and I just saw the male lunge for the other person," said Mr Williams. "He had her in a headlock." He said he saw the man hitting the woman repeatedly, demonstrating this in the witness box. …
