WOODBINE -- A recently launched Web site designed to help Georgia educators got an assist from a Woodbine third-grade teacher.

Crystal Bunkley, who teaches at Woodbine Elementary School, is one of 75 teachers selected from a pool of 400 to help design Georgia Learning Connections, a one-stop Web-based curriculum and instructional resource for educators.

The site was created to help other teachers and the parents of home-schooled children meet the state's Quality Core Curriculum, a summary of the curriculum objectives the state expects teachers to meet at each grade level.

"There was a considerable amount of competition for this honor," said Linda Whitacre, Georgia Learning Connections director. "It was a really big deal to be chosen. These teachers not only helped write the site, but they will now serve as ambassadors for the program and will help educate teachers about what resources GLC offers."

Yesterday, Bunkley and her colleagues got a look at the new Web site during a popcorn party given in her honor at the school. They watched an informational video about the new program, which premiered on Oct. 18.

Bunkley, who is also the school's teacher of the year for 1999-2000, worked on the program this summer along with teachers from around the state.

"I was initially selected to attend Surf Camp last July," she said. "At camp, I spent a week in Rome [Ga.] working . . . to develop the site."

Bunkley said she helped work on the QCC connections for fourth-grade language arts and also helped to find resources for the teacher's resource page.

The site, which is lottery funded, is the first state-educational site that caters to both parents and teachers, Whitacre said.
