A LIFETIME in the industry has taught me that "the only certainty in horse racing is its uncertainty".

That certainly was borne out with the results of a number of races at the Rockhampton Jockey Club's TAB program at Callaghan Park yesterday.

For instance, who would have imagined by boom filly Cyclone Topgirl would have finished a fading last in the $28,500 QTIS 3YO Handicap (1100m)?

On paper, the race was billed as a showdown between eight times winner Cyclone Topgirl and her heir apparent Gypsy Toff.

Enter the Peter Fleming trained Gracie Belle (Chris McIver, $10.00) who overwhelmed a game Gypsy Toff (Ashley Butler, $1.50) to win by 0.75 lengths.

Obviously under-rated even allowing for her massive pull in the weights with just 54kg, Gracie Belle ran the excellent time of 1m:03.39 seconds.

Gypsy Toff was game in defeat and even allowing for Cyclone Topgirl having a jockey change and humping 63kg, she ran far too below par suggesting possibly a subsequent problem may be unearthed.

Talk about uncertainty, what about seemingly out of form Mick Attard trained Rise To Fame ($20.00) nosing out Jim O'Shea's hotpot Barachiel ($1.45) to win the Class 6 Plate (1200m)?

The result typified the somewhat regular occurrence of an outsider getting up to win in a small field which the race was with just five starters.

If didn't stop there as former Condamine based trainer Clinton Taylor's Cash Strapped (Ryan Wiggins) also sprung a surprise when he won the Class 2 (1100m) at the juicy odds of $10.00.

Another outsider in Julieann Lancaster's Rock'N'Roll Bobby (Nathan Thomas, $21.00) was a nose away second while the race favourite Tevye (Hannah Phillips, $2.80) finished third.

Cash Strapped provided former apprentice jockey Clinton Taylor with his second Capricornia winner from just two starters since he relocated to Rockhampton recently. …
