Following are crimes and other incidents reported recently on
the Southside to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
ARMED ROBBERY
A man with a sheer mask covering the bottom of his face robbed
the Microtel Inn in the 4900 block of Mustang Road at gunpoint
at 1:46 a.m. Monday.
The desk clerk, 19, said the robber pointed a silver handgun at
her. When she began screaming, he assured her he would not shoot
her and told her to give him the money from a cash drawer. After
getting the money, the robber told her to take the wall phone
off the hook. She did so and the robber knocked it to the floor
before fleeing. Police said the robber gained entry by removing
a vent at the rear of the building that gave him access to the
water heater room. From there, the robber was able to enter the
lobby.
BURGLARY
A woman who lives in the Royal Pointe Apartments in the 7500
block of Beach Boulevard called police at 3:20 a.m. Sunday to
report she was awakened by a noise at her bedroom window. She
told police she saw a man halfway inside the window. She yelled
and the burglar fled without stealing anything.
A maintenance supervisor at the Driftwood Kentwood Apartments
in the 3800 block of University Boulevard South called police at
11 a.m. Sunday when he discovered a storage room had been
burglarized. The supervisor said the burglar kicked in the door
and then stole two air-conditioner condensers valued at $600.
A woman who lives in an apartment in the 9400 block of
Princeton Square Boulevard South called police at 1:02 a.m.
Monday after she chased a burglar from her home with a baseball
bat. The woman said she was asleep until awakened by the noise
the burglar made breaking into her second-floor apartment. The
burglar had climbed a tree to her balcony and then pried open
the door from the balcony to her apartment. The burglar was able
to remove about $50 from her purse before she confronted him
with the baseball bat. …
