Jacksonville Beach Votes to Keep Property Tax Rate at Same Level

JACKSONVILLE BEACH -- The City Council unanimously approved the

$94.8 million municipal budget on Monday for the 1999 fiscal

year, which starts Oct. 1.

The special meeting ran barely 10 minutes as the seven-member

council first adopted its property tax rate of $3.9071 per

$1,000 of assessed valuation, meaning the municipal portion of

homeowners' property tax bills will remain at the same rate it's

been since 1995.

According to the city's estimates, the entire tax bill --

including what will be doled out to the city of Jacksonville,

the Water Management District, Inland Navigation and the Duval

County School Board -- is $22.8975 per $1,000.

A property owner whose home is assessed at $100,000, and who

applies the Homestead Exemption, will get a total tax bill for

about $1,717. Jacksonville Beach's portion of that would be

$293.

The School Board gets the biggest chunk of that with 43.1

percent. The city of Jacksonville gets 37. …
