Beall's to Open Two More Stores in Jacksonville

Beall's Inc. plans to open two more outlet stores in

Jacksonville this month.

The Bradenton-based chain plans to open a store in the former

Walgreens in the San Pablo Family Center on Beach Boulevard and

another store in the former Big Lots in the Arlington Plaza on

Arlington Road.

With the new stores, scheduled to open in late July, Beall's

operates 10 department and outlet stores in the area.

Beall's also is looking for sites to open two more outlet

stores and two additional department stores in Northeast

Florida, officials said.

"We like Jacksonville. I guess because they like us," said Seth

Layton, vice president of real estate.

The chain operates more than 220 stores and next year plans to

open 30 additional stores.


Area grocery store chains have major remodeling plans in the


Among them, Food Lion Inc. has filed plans with the city to

expand a fifth area store.

The Salisbury, N.C.-based chain is seeking approval to add

nearly 10,000 square feet to its 25,000-square-foot store at

7200 Normandy Blvd.

The chain also recently sought approvals to expand supermarkets

at 8299 W. Beaver St., 701 Mayport Crossing Blvd., 8595 Beach

Blvd., and 10550 St. Augustine Road.

"We are continuing to evaluate sites in Jacksonville to make

sure the supermarkets are continuing to meet customers needs.

We're updating and expanding stores where necessary," said

spokeswoman Chris Ahern.

Meanwhile, Albertson's is remodeling its supermarket at 2875

University Blvd. W. The project should be completed in October.

"Typically, when Albertson's remodels a store, when we

completely redo the store and make it as if it's a brand new

store," said Jenny Enochson, Albertson's spokeswoman. "Customers

can expect an entirely new look and hopefully much more

convenient for them."

Last month, the Boise, Idaho-based chain began refurbishing

its 10-year-old store at San Jose Boulevard and Hartley Road.

And, Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. plans to enlarge its supermarket at

12777 Atlantic Blvd., near Girvin Road. …
