Mandarin's Fox Feeling Better Athletic Director Recovering from Triple Bypass; Back at Work Soon

Jon Fox can laugh now. Three weeks ago, the Mandarin High

School athletic director struggled just to smile.

Fox continues his recovery from triple-bypass heart surgery,

and he finds himself in good spirits -- something he said wasn't

the case last month. And he credits friends and family for

helping keep post-operative depression at bay.

"I can't see getting through it as easily as I did without

their help," said Fox, 48. "It made things much more pleasant,

if that's the word.

"It keeps your mind off of it. It does give your life some

semblance of what it used to be like. That's where the fear is.

You're not sure what you're life's going to be like after this."

Fox is lucky. He will have no lasting effects from the surgery

performed on May 28, although he will have to alter his

lifestyle.

"That's the one place were I was very fortunate -- I had no

heart damage," Fox said. "Most of the problem was lifestyle. We

eat too many of those drive-in hamburgers and probably way too

much concession food and probably not enough exercise. …
