While teams from all over the country were present at the

University of North Florida this week for the National Junior

Men's Invitational Basketball Championships, the city of

Jacksonville was well-represented.

The First Coast had three teams in the 16-team tournament, each

in a different pool.

The most highly touted of the local teams was Team

Jacksonville, which was composed of a number of the area's top

high school and college players.

The twin towers of Wolfson All-America Kenny Walker and

Sandalwood's Calvin Warner, an Eastern Michigan signee, provided

Team Jacksonville with superiority on the boards and the fans

with plenty of excitement.

During Monday's game, both the shot and game clocks above the

goal on the east end of the arena were inoperative. Technicians

attempted to repair them, but were unsuccessful. Late in the

first half, Warner got loose on a fast break and dunked the ball

with such authority that the clocks suddenly flickered on. …
