Rams Beat Bucs in Eight Innings

It took an extra inning, but the Englewood offense finally broke

through against host First Coast's pitching. The end result last

night was a 9-5 eight-inning victory for the Rams in a battle of

ranked clubs.

"We're getting ready for districts and they got after it," said

Englewood coach Mike Boswell. "Even when we got down, we stayed

with it."

With the score knotted 2-2 after seven innings, Englewood,

ranked No. 4 in Class 4A, loaded the bases with one out against

reliever Jacob Wyss. When Kevin Johnson rapped the ball to

second base, Adam Hawk decided to come home with the throw, but

Jack Jernier beat the throw and the Rams led 3-2.

It was here that Class 5A No. 2 First Coast crumbled

defensively. The Bucs (22-5) committed three more errors in the

inning, surrendering a sevenrun eighth.

"When you have a battle of teams like this, the first one to

blink will lose," said First Coast coach Brent Hall. …
