Office-Bound PSC Chief Complicates Renovation Work Barber Discounts Rumors of Feud

ATLANTA -- Public Service Commission Chairman Mac Barber just

can't seem to leave his office.

While that might be a good thing for consumers trying to reach

him at work -- it's keeping at bay a $4.5 million renovation of

the building he inhabits, long since vacated by the rest of the

Public Service Commission and even Barber's secretary, Gerry

Gossett.

The other commissioners, Stan Wise, Dave Baker, Bobby Baker and

Bob Durden, and the staff moved in November to new, temporary

quarters.

Barber says he's trying to leave. He discounted rumors that he

had a feud with Georgia Building Authority director Luther Lewis

and was purposely holding up the move. The GBA is doing the

renovations.

"I'm keeping in touch with the building authority. . . . I'm

trying to get out," Barber said." I have moved 90 percent. I

have one little desk."

This is not the first time Barber has prompted fellow officials

to wonder. …
